Hi everyone! This is my first official post as a blogger. Over the past few years, I’ve gotten into cake decorating as a hobby and I thought a blog would be a great way to share my work. I figured in my first post, I would share a little about myself.
I graduated with my Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science at the University of Maryland in 2010. My dissertation studied hearing and perception in zebra finches. I’m a crazy bird lady and you will see my very first creative cake (of a zebra finch) in my next post. I originally started baking to relieve stress during grad school, but soon found that I enjoyed the creativity of designing cakes. My husband bought me cake decorating classes for one birthday. Once I had learned the basic decorating skills, I enjoyed making cakes even more! The cakes I make are for friends and family. They are usually for birthdays, but sometimes they are for holidays, occasions, or just out of love. 😉
With the exception of my first few cakes, I make everything from scratch. I use simple flavors (usually white cake since my husband hates chocolate) and mainly focus on decorating. I think in the future I will venture out and try new flavors. While I will post mostly about decorating, I will also post any recipes that I especially like using. I’ve also come across some good products and tutorials, so I will post about those too. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have. I’m happy to help if I can!
Woohoo! Congrats on the new blog!
